Patterning

Did some "patterning" yesterday, by focusing on the high-end mid-income bracket consumer and seeing what they wear, where they go, what they do, what they buy, what they eat etc. Made a first try down in Omotesando and adjacent Aoyama areas, walking around and studying people and behaviors in exclusive and/or luxury boutiques and cafes, before taking a rest at the ever-full Anniversary Cafe along Omotesando Rd.
Not sure what to make of the impressions I got, because I didn't get that much explicit info out of this outing: really just trying to immerse myself in the lifestyle. Will have to try the expensive Ginza, Nishi-Azabu, Shirokanedai and Roppongi areas of Tokyo at some point too. It's not very focused though, and not sure how to make this a more productive research activity without resorting to traditional on-the-street interviewing. Mmm. Wonder where the jetset congregate.
