* After a weekend of setting up Linux servers, it's amazing how much time these things take. Also bought a book on Oracle and trial databases to set up. The latest Oracle database trial takes up about 1.5GB of space, yes, GIGABYTE!! That's no laughing matter.
* Did that on Saturday at home and then setting up the firewall computer on Sunday with Mike at the office. Installed a Linux-type server software called Fedora Core vers.3, and it looks pretty nice. I was thinking of going for a couple of Windows Server 2003 server machines to be used for the NaviBlog service (as they are cheaper). Now I think we will have to go for the Linux pre-installed ones, which are more expensive, but for all the security talk I can read on the web, it says that Windows servers would get compromised by viruses etc often within minutes of being on the web, whereas Linux machines could sit around for months of repeated attacks and not have one security breach. I think that information right there crystallized my mind on one thing: learning Linux and getting these servers.
* Trying to set up the network now on Mike's machine, we were having trouble with the network late on Sunday and on this morning too. My machine just got back online a few mins ago.
* But as we know, all work and no play makes Mandali a dull entrepreneur... Only a few more days and it's Shanghai here I come! As I pointed out earlier, will be off on Thursday morning, back Saturday evening. Check the "Investment/Shanghai" blog title for details.
