* No, we are not expanding Naviblog into the wine industry, just that I have had the opportunity of drinking some nice wines recently at home, whether by myself or with company. A great French red was brought along by Eriko, Paul Mos' "Que Serah Sirah", a Minervois wine from 2002. Or the recent gift by Yuuko of a Californian sparkling white, Roederer Estate (Anderson Valley, California), slightly on the sweet side, and another sparkling Italian rose, Ferrari Rose Metodo Classico. Actually enjoying the rose now! Nice and mellow, not too cloying, not too light, very dry, big bubbles.
* Otherwise a surprise Naviblog favourite (as in my favourite), an Australian red from Trevor Jonas, Size 02. An amazingly rich, powerful and juicy finish, appropriately so when the label reads: "Grenache Merlot Cabernet Franc", which kind of put me off... I mean, why not put in all the other kinds of grapes while you're at it?! But no, great taste, amazing.
* What else, a chance Spanish purchase with the Reserva Herencia Antica (Utiel-Requena), a Tempranillo red with just enough punch, a classic red for me. I used to be into the Sangre de Toro reds back in University, but now that I can find them in the convenience store next door, something's got to be wrong. I allowed myself to buy a Bourgogne White 2003 a few weeks back from the Lawson... and will never make that mistake again: tasteless, fetid aftertaste, pseudo-white slush in a bottle with a price tag. Seriously.
(DO NOT CONFUSE with the Gran Sangre de Toro, this is an unbelievable Grenache/Syrah heavyweight.)
* Otherwise, there's the always fresh Spanish Freixenet or Cava, or the titillating Australian Jacob's Creek Pinot Noir/Chardonnay, but anyway, here's the latest Naviblog wine top 5:
5. Reserva Herencia Antica, red, Spain, Tempranillo, 1998
4. Ferrari Rose Metodo Classico, sparkling rose, Italy
3. Que Serah Sirah, red, France, Minervois, 2002
2. Jacob's Creek, sparkling white, Australia, Chardonnay Pinot Noir
1. Trevor Jonas Size 02, red, Australia, Grenache Merlot Cabernet Franc
