* UK newspaper the Independent stays true to its "Newspaper of the year" title.
After successfully making the move from broadsheet to tabloid(-sheet?), the Independent continues on its series of innovative news-designs. After this month's "Red Issue" edited by Bono from rock group U2 and focused on world issues (did I post re. this in the Naviblog blog section...not sure), today's issue of the Independent focuses on the debacle of Labour party topdog, John Prescott. Very innovative use of pictures in a pretty manga-like cover page for a British newspaper.
Probably a little difficult to decipher for those not in with the latest British news, suffice to say that the two Jaguar cars at the top represent Prescott's nickname "2 Jags", the guy in the middle is opposition (Conservative) party leader David Cameron, and the guy towards the bottom is labour party politician Peter Mandelson, UK prime minister Blair's equivalent of a political swiss knife seen the amount of portfolios/positions he's held in the last 7 years.
Anyway, the usual story is that - like Clinton - a politician should be put down for an affair with another woman/man, as opposed to being put on trial for indiscriminately killing lots of brown people. But then again, nothing new there either, on either side of the Atlantic. We love burying our head in the sands of meaningless scandals, while the jackals of impunity, criminality and empire stalk undiminished.
