DJ Boss Latte - "Shades Of Red "

So Mike and Mandali told me Naviblog inofficial policy is to have all employees contribute mixes to Naviblog FM. I gladly oblige. Why is the set called "Shades of Red"? Well... because not only is the selection red-hot, but I also think the music has a red quality to it throughout. Also, I blush during voiceovers, but you can't see that.

A soulful selection to listen to, for example, while you are chilling on your balcony on a summer evening (unless you live in Tokyo, where the balconies are just big enough to put out the laundry - no place to sit, really). Starting off with the slow-burning "Moon Take The Tides... Gently Gently Away" from Jimi Hendrix's "Electric Ladyland" and keeping it easy with a Dwele cover of Freddie Hubbard's "Red Clay" recorded live at the BBC Maida Vale studios for the Gilles Peterson Worldwide radio show (an eternal source of musical inspiration to me), as well as tracks from the new RH Factor album, GB feat. Steve Spacek and the 9 Yards Orchestra. German soul songstress Joy Denalane does her live thing on "Was auch immer" before Jay Dee (R.I.P.) gets busy with his version of Donald Byrd's classic "Think Twice".

Picking up the pace a bit with tracks from Mos Def, The Roots, Omar, Raul Midon, the Platinum Pied Pipers and the incredible Sa-Ra Creative Partners (I absolutely cannot wait for their album to drop) before finishing off with Abdullah Ibrahim's "African Marketplace", which I have been in love with since I first heard it about seven years ago, and LA's Build An Ark with the Pharoah Sanders classic "You Gotta Have Freedom".

Enjoy the show!
