Shoot - Jail - Crash

* In the long-lasting series from the people that dump refugees on desert islands, and contribute to the development of non-democracy by aiding mass slaughter in Iraq or sabotaging East Timorian independence, the Australian political elite are at it again.

With new laws that would make the "Beast of Baghdad" and the "Beast of Washington" green with envy (see Robert Fisk for the meaning of these words), the Australian government is soon to pass the following paragon laws of democracy:
1. Shoot fleeing civilians evading detention (something not available to the ordinary police)
2. Detain people without arresting them
3. Search premises, people and vehicles without warrants (thus avoiding judicial scrutiny), and more...
I can hardly believe this brazen attempt on the most basic rights that European and other peoples have fought to wrest from monarchic elites over the centuries. For more, see here.
